She doesn’t like sharing space beside a person

Cavapoochon Lula is very happy sharing the sofa or bed with their two cats – when nobody is there. When they are out the camera shows her cuddled up with the two cats. Sharing the person’s space When a person is sitting down with her that’s a different matter. When Read more…

It’s his sixth home in his first year. Soft growls escalated to snarling and a couple of bites.

He guards his food. He guards his bed or where he happens to be lying. He may guard his own personal space.

Romanian Rescue Ella barks aggressively at the man.

They have had their Romanian rescue, Ella, for about six weeks. As she gets braver she now will bark aggressively at the man when he approaches or moves, hackles up. They are afraid she may bite him. She’s affectionate with the lady. Romanian rescue becoming increasingly reactive to the man Read more…

Puzzling behaviour. He goes for the lady but only when the man is there.

When she walks into the room and the man is there, he flies at her growling, jumps at her and sometimes bites her. He never does this with the men in the family. For them he has only, to quote the lady, ‘kisses and cuddles’.

With his warning signs ignored, he has little choice but to bite.

Their goal is ‘for Snoopy not to bite’. What brought this to a head is that he bit their 7-year-old nephew. MY goal is ‘for Snoopy not to feel the need to bite’. These are two very different things. ‘For Snoopy not to bite’ implies that the humans carry on Read more…

dog to dog

Pibbles is aggressive to their new dog (the other side of the world).

This was a very interesting online session. The dog is sometimes aggressive towards one of their other dogs. My online consultation took me all the way the other side of the world to Florida and to a farm with hundreds of acres. They have six dogs. Three are Great Pyrenees Read more…

It’s Mine! Another resource guarding Cocker Spaniel

My latest case, six-month-old Mollie, is a little different from most in that the two main things that seem to activate the guarding in most dogs don’t apply.

Positive relationship with their puppy to be built through understanding

‘He bites everything he can get hold of, including us… (with a bone) he turned into a dog we’ve never seen… growling uncontrollably, barking extremely aggressively… if he was not in his pen I think he would have really gone for us’.

puppy and older dog

Introducing puppy to older dog. Dog growls. Puppy barks.

Here is another story where introducing puppy to an older dog is proving to be a problem. My last case of introducing puppy to an older dog was just a couple of days ago. The two played too roughly and this wasn’t good for the puppy. This case is about Read more…

Guarding, protecting or both?

Charlie’s is another clear case of a dog much more likely to be guarding – or protecting – when he’s already stirred up. This is evident by how his behaviour is variable.
