Over the last few weeks, for some reason Gonzo has become what the ladies describe as ‘hyper-vigilant’ at home.
He is now barking a lot and has becoming increasingly jumpy and alert. In the evenings he can’t settle.
I love it when people call me at the start. Puppy Parenting is about making sure things go in the right direction. It’s also about pre-empting possible future problems.
But it’s a tricky case of finding a compromise between two approaches – what the gentleman himself calls ‘carrot and stick’. The man is the stick and the lady the carrot
They already have beautiful German Shepherd Dave and, a few days ago, another GSD, Lottie, joined the family.
The most immediate problem is that Lottie barks at cats – they have two that are used to freely coming and going. Now they are scared and Lottie is becoming increasingly reactive.
As she settles in, she behaves like she increasingly regards the cats as scary intruders. (more…)

Their days with sixteen-week-old Luna start badly as the easily aroused puppy fights against having her harness put on. The exasperated lady admits being driven to shouting and tears by the wriggling, biting animal.
